lymphedema & LIPEDEMA

Lymphedema is swelling generally in the arms or legs due to a blockage in your lymphatic system.  It is most commonly caused by infection, trauma such as surgery to the area, or following cancer treatment.  Lymphedema is a condition that has no cure but through treatment you can control the symptoms and manage it long term. It is important to find a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT) that is specialized in the treatment of lymphedema to ensure a quick recovery and prevent further damage to the lymphatic system.  Beth Nicholson, PT, DPT, CLT and Katie Hieb, PT, DPT, CLT are certified and have been providing treatment to lymphedema patients for over 8 plus years combined.

Lipedema is caused by abnormal fatty deposits that accumulate underneath the skin.  Typically this involves both legs, but does not involve the feet.  Arms can be affected as well, however legs are more common.  This affects mostly women , usually in middle age  or following a pregnancy.  Lipedema can also be hereditary.

Treatment can be very effective for both conditions.
